The Nature Conservancy's Davis Mountain Preserve is looking for some temporary employees. Two positions are available:

Quote
SAW CREW MANAGER: The Saw Crew Manager oversees a squad (2-4 Saw Crew Members) in forest thinning activities, as directed by supervisor. The Saw Crew Manager will participate in directing saw crew day to day work, saw use and maintenance and wildland fire work as appropriate. May perform other preserve management duties when conditions are not conducive to forest thinning or prescribed fire. This is a short-term job (6 months or less). Wildland fire knowledge and qualifications are preferred. ($12.50/hr.)

SAW CREW MEMBERS: The Saw Crew Member participates in wildland forest thinning operations which include use of chainsaw, maintenance of saw/equipment, monitoring, etc. May perform other preserve management duties when conditions are not conducive to forest thinning or prescribed fire. This is a short-term job (6 months or less). Wildland fire knowledge and qualifications are preferred. ($11.00/hr.)

Applications for both positions will be accepted starting December 1, 2010. Project to thin approximately 160 acres of ponderosa pine forest on the preserve starts approximately mid-February, 2011, and work will be conducted full-time for 10-15 weeks until project is completed.

Applicants will be expected to camp at the remote worksite and/or stay in bunkrooms at the preserve, depending upon weather conditions.

The Davis Mountain Preserve is one of the most beautiful places in Texas. Mount Livermore, the highest peak in the Davis range, is located in the preserve.

I'm sure there are some nice perks associated with the job. Getting paid to camp doesn't sound too bad either...unless it is your job. Nah! its still pretty sweet!

I'll work for Chris Pipes and the TNC any time (makes me feel like and insider), and Mt Livermore with its surrounding wilderness is special. If anyone goes to the Preserve tell them "Quicksilver" (John Hoyt) sent you. (I was a volunteer with the TNC)
