there is a little bit of overlap with texas monthly's top 25 freshwater swimming holes.  http://www.texasmonthly.com/2008-08-01/feature.php

while i may have differences of opinion with the authors of these two articles; in this heat, it's hard to find a bad swimming hole.

I love a good swimming hole, and now that my kids are getting old enough to participate, there's nothing better than spending a Saturday or Sunday afternoon swimming in Texas with the family.  Burger's Lake is 4 miles from our house in Fort Worth (I believe it was #17 on the Texas Monthly list) so that's our regular haunt, but I also can't wait to take them to Balmorhea which we haven't done yet.
