AutoStitch: Entire Sierra Quemada Range from the South Rim

Check this out.  I found some new software that kicks butt.  You can take photos that you didn't intend on being panos and use this program to splice them together and you'd never know.  They can even be of differing sizes.  Obviously there are limits to what it can do, but so far I haven't found anything better.

Go here.  Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and then click on Download.  

After downloading the program, unzip it and then run the autostitch.exe.  Then click on file/Open.  Choose which pics you want to stitch together and then choose open.  You will have to hold down the Ctrl key to select all of your pics.  This works waaaaaay better than Photoshop, although you will have to use Photoshop to crop the photo once you are finished.  It will name every pano you make "pano" so you will need to change the name each time or it will copy over your last pano.  Here is an example of what I did with 3 photos taken from the South Rim on August 11, 2007.  And no, there is nothing wrong with my camera, that is smog from Mexico fouling up the air.

I'll have to give it another look. I tried it a while back when I had to reload the computer and couldn't find my Canon disks with Photostitch. I tried several back then including panaroma factory and some others and couldn't find anything that worked as nice as Photostitch. I eventually found my Canon disk and have been fat and happy.

Awsome :!:  :!: ...I have many pictures that need stitching. But who am i kidding?.. I just have no time on my hands for this. ...real bummer, for me .

   If i could buy time for me and my leisures....just day dreaming here. In the meantime, i just enjoy what other folks can do. =D>

On one of his visits he took several photos of the Rio Grande and stitched them together to make this beautiful panoramic picture. At first when comparing Autostitch to Canon's Photostitch I was not that impressed. Once I started playing with the Autostitch options, my opinion changed dramatically for the better. One thing that's kind of cool is that you can add your stitched pics to CG's Virtual BiBe screensaver. There may be much less clarity (in my case certainly) of your stitched pics compared to CG's. However until CG gets to exactly your favorite spot at exactly your favorite time of day it's a very nice added bonus to enjoy.

Not sure this is real representative, I had to lower the resolution to get it to where it would load on photobucket. This is a 360 taken from where we plan to build our house in Terlingua Ranch. The center is due north.

Nice views.  By the way, running your pano through the Micro$oft Image Resizer using the same pixel size knocked the file size down from 985KB to 182KB.  You might try again with the higher resolution, then resize it and see what happens (assuming you're running Windoze XP, otherwise you'll have to check out some of the other free resizers out there).
