There is no doubt that TJ has the equipment but more importantly the knowledge to take Great pictures.  But hopefully this thread shows that, with a little help from the TJ's, BK's, etc. who participate in this chat group, even those of us with much lesser equipment can take some pretty cool photos.

Thanks, Al :icon_biggrin: Equipment matters some (in this specific case, it matters a lot), but technique and using YOUR equipment to it's potential is most important.

Shooting the moon (if you want a detailed frame-filling moon) just requires lots of focal length. There are others on this board that have better equipment than I for this type of shot.

For reference, my shot was made with 1270mm (35mm "full frame" effective focal length). That's a 400mm lens on a "cropped" DSLR camera body and two 1.4x teleconverters stacked.
