Geo Tagging Photos
« on: January 11, 2011, 07:51:24 PM »
For Christmas i received a GiSTEQ DPL700 PhotoTrackr Lite Geo.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/656128-REG/GiSTEQ_C7_02DPL700_DPL700_PhotoTrackr_Lite_Geo.html
I had wanted something like this for a while so I can map out where my photos were taken. I know there is a way to do this with a regular GPS device and free software., but I dont always want to carry around my Garmin 60CSx.
I attached this to my camera strap so when ever I run off somewhere at the spur of the moment I will always have it with me to tag a location.

now I cant wait to try it out besides my back yard

Does it connect to your DSLR and add the geotagging info to the exif data?

no its just stand alone unit, during the software installation it has you sync the time on your camera with the little GPS unit. the software will take the image date/time info and match it to the same date and time on the GPS and will then enter that info into the photos's exif data. Then you can use some of the photo sharing sites like Flikr to map out your photos locations.

my personal web site has a plug in to support geo tagged photos, so I will be going that route

James,

I use my 60CSx and save the gpx files. I then use GeoSetter http://www.geosetter.de/en to sync the files. The most important thing to remember is to sync your camera clock to the GPS time BEFORE you start shooting. I assume that will also apply to your tracker.
I have a really good story, wanna hear?

BK, i did look at that GeoSetter as an option, but i wanted something that would stay with the camera, and something smaller. Besides I really only use my Garmin in BiBe.

Don't forget to sync time. It is easier than using the "offset" functions in the software. (I learned the hard way)
