In case you haven't figured it out yet I am computer illiterate; just now learning how to send pictures; any suggestions from the more sympathetic of you
Online albums, have been for me the best way to go. Since sometimes i also post on other boards,i can send a slideshow of a set of pictures, share the pictures with others, some of my pictures (family or mountain trips) can be shared thru Facebook (my wife has an account, i do not), etc, etc. Check them out.

homerboy, which online albums are easiest to use?

Some of the members of the board here have their own webspace (webpage), which they use for uploading their picture, i am going to let them chime in with their own experiences.

 I have checked out:
: Sometimes i get confused, when organizing my pictures there. Not always (I have a family account there).

    Webshots
: I always have uploaded my trip pictures and work related albums, no problem in uploading pics, you can add  some music too, lots of features (i am more comfortable with it).

: This is Google's site for pictures. Very good, only cumbersome thing i could find was that i can upload some pictures, but i could not post a direct link to the picture. I had to post a link to the picture site ,so it could take you over to the picture and slap you with a ton of publicity. I do not know if this issue has been resolved by them or not.Kind of like Flickr

: Very good, i read thru some of the members here, that you had to pay a fee to work with it?, not sure on this one too. All the previous mentioned are FREE, until you want to upgrade to a PROFESSIONAL level, then they charge you...i think about $20.00 bucks a year or so.

Check them out and let us know what you think. Of course we have the feature here on BBC too.

Thanks for the info, I'll check it out.  When I posted my trip report this morning, I tried to upload the pictures to the online album here so I could embed them but it said it was the wrong format.  I couldn't figure out why.  I'll look at the different online albums, good tips.

The interface for http://www.bigbendgallery.com/uploads/ is a bit finicky on file types. Besides, since it's open to everybody it's too easy for files to be overwritten if you choose common file names.

James, I actually bought my domain name last year from GoDaddy, with the hopes I would actually do something with it.  Then I didn't.     Any suggestions on how to learn how to set it up?  I've looked around for books but get a little overwhelmed by it all.  I like the elevations you post on your website.  And your pictures are just beautiful.

Thanks Cactus Flower. Over the last 7 years or so I have gone through so many "looks" for my web site its unreal. I finally like the way I have my site now. I dont have to really do anything besides uploading my photos, generating the thumbnails, then publishing them to the site.

The hard part was figuring where on your server to put the files. I use a php style web site (programing language) the files needed to make it work are free, updates are free, themes are free so thats good. But it did take a while for me to learn how to configure it.

how much space do yo have for your domain to host your web site?  books can be hard to follow. I suggest reading a little on the web about different ways to build your site before you dive into it.

While we're talking pictures (I like Picasa so far), how about watermarking pictures? I use a Mac and am looking for something to put maybe a darker overlay (transparent) at the bottom of a picture so I can add a caption that says where the pic was taken and maybe who took it (me : ) when possible. Any suggestions? Even Windoze suggestions would be of interest. I'd appreciate any insight! Thanks!
