Sports bars near BIBE for TV (risking being blackballed)
« on: October 22, 2006, 08:58:34 PM »
i think i may be on shaky ground with this question, as i am a "newbie" with no street-cred; but, here goes:

i will be in the park over the thanksgiving weekend.  i'll be there with my brother and our best friend.  we all are rabid texas longhorn fans, and will be interested in the outcome of the ut/a&m football game on friday.

so the question:  do any of you know a bar or restaurant in lajitas, terlingua, study butte, where we might be able to catch the game on tv?  i'm sure we aren't interested enough to drive all the way to alpine or presidio.

i promise no electronic entertainment questions in the future.

thanks

La Kiva, and a "sports bar" on the northern side of 170 just past terlingua creek are the places i know of. Me and hopefully 3 friends will be there that weekend, and currently attending UT will make every effort to see the game. La Kiva is where we are going. hopefully we'll see you there

If I'm out there, I should be car-camping, and it'll be on the olde-timey satellite radio.

you must have sirius.  we were out in the park over ou weekend, and the game was not being aired on xm radio.  one of the unforeseen limitations of their service.

The Eldorado Hotel at the entrance of the Terlingua Ghostown opened a new restaurant and bar last week.  Good food.

TV is on the upper level adjoinging the outdoor patio with great view of the Chisos.

Watched the Cowboy-Giant game there last night.

Herman is the owner.

Also the Boatmans in the Ghostown has a TV.

Burn Ban, in 1996 we were going to do a backpack trip and wanted to catch the A&M game prior to getting on the trail. It was one of those early kickoffs (10 am). We stopped at the Gage restaurant for breakfast on our way to the park and asked if they happened to have a TV. As they had just finished building the White Buffalo bar they let us sit in there and watch the game and order breakfast.

It was great. Texas won the game and Barton Warnock stopped by (to see the new bar, not the game).

Other times many years ago we've watched the game (with really bad reception) in the lobby of the lodge or tried to pick up a wandering radio signal. Gotta love satellite radio and TV. I don't like having to choose between Big Bend and UT football.

I believe the lodge TV now has satellite reception.  They had ESPN on last time I was in there (11/05).  Of course, the small lounge area with couches and chairs is long gone. :(

If you are an Aggie, you don't care if you have to stand in the Lodge to watch game. La Kiva, Boathouse both have TV and I think the little food joint to left side of road into Terlingua Store has TV also a Texas fan as owner is Tea Sip.

it is true undertaker...we longhorns are a lazy, sit-on-our-butts, complacent lot when compared to the rabidity of aggie fans.

I can't loose, oldest boy is Tea Sip, middle son is Aggie Corp, youngest is St. Edwards Hilltoper LaCrosse Junior, I am University of Houston, from Alabama. When any of the above teams play any sport and win, I don't loose. When Texas plays A&M wife and I support one side one half and the other side the other half, depending on coin flip. Youngest son has become rabid Tea Sip for Football, and rebid LaCrosse for St. Edwards when playing either Texas or A&M. 8)  8)
