From AccuWeather and the Scientific American looks like another La Nina and at least the west Texas drought will continue through the winter.

Guess I won't have to worry about dealing with mud on the trails at Palo Duro Canyon in another week.

 :icon_eek:  That would be really bad.  Big Bend had a really long dry period from 1992 through at least 1998 but not like this one.  We need La Nina to go away and La Nino to come and play.

It's not going to take much longer and drinking water supplies are going to be in jeopardy. They keep comparing this to the drought in the 50's but the population density of TX is orders of magnitude greater now

Yes, this is why the desalination plant the SA water system is going to build is so important. This will tap into a huge underground salt water aquifer stretching all the way to Minnesota.

We got 1.8" at my house in central Austin this morning!!  And not in a deluge that mostly runs off.  No, this was a nice steady rain for about 5 hours.  A real soaker, like we haven't had in these parts for a long, long time.  It doesn't mean the drought is over--far from it--but it sure was great to finally get SOMETHING.

3-4" in Piedras Negras...it was down pouring all night long. The Dogs are in the backyard, asking for lemonades and barbecues while they enjoy the small lake puddles. They even smell great, not like the desert porch pooch's.

Yep, it finally rained on our farm down in Buda.  We have had almost no rain since Sept 2010 and it is nice to have gotten some!  Hay costs have been tough!
