Regarding the Christmas Mountains "mess", shouldn't the Friends of Big Bend be weighing in on this issue? Shouldn't the Friends of Big Bend be mounting a massive "call to arms - one if by land, two if by sea" on this issue? Shouldn't the Friends of Big Bend be using any political muscle that they might have in Austin to sway this issue? Instead of collecting funds for a
statue, shouldn't the friends be collecting massive amounts of funds to buy the Christmas Mountains and donate it directly to BIBE? I get the impression from being around the friends that there are a lot of "deep pockets" involved with the organization. I think it's time to pony up, dig deep - very deep into those pockets, and be a Friend of Big Bend.
There is no mention of the Christmas Mountains mess on the Friends of Big Bend
website. I call on the Big Bend Natural History Association and the Friends of Big Bend to rapidly team up like they did for the PJ expansion project and garner political support and deep pocket money to just outright buy the Christmas Mountains.
I'll put this in the form of a motion! I move that the BBNHA and FOBB team up, use all available political clout and use all financial resources to purchase the Christmas Mountains! Do I hear a 2nd?
BTW - this was not an original idea on my part, an undisclosed person of interest gave me this idea in an email...
