Anyone hear anyting about “Maggie”
« on: December 04, 2007, 05:42:04 PM »
Hello all,

This is my first post in a long time.  I was going through some old negatives the other day and came across a photo of Magdalena Garcia (AKA “Maggie”).  He was the true "Gentleman" that used to operate the store at Castolon store years ago.  He would always greet you when you came in out of the heat with a thundering "Hello My Friend" !!  I heard from a park employee about a year ago that he was still alive and living in San Vicente.

Back then we'd come in off the river and he kept a big wheel of cheese on an old time cutter there on the counter.  I can still remember the taste of that cheddar cheese with a cold beer under sitting under the cool shade of the afternoon.  The story I heard back in the 80's was that some "Big City" lady came into the store and saw the "unsanitary" display of cheese....which faded into the past shortly thereafter.  That was before the store was air conditioned and a lot has changed since the 1970's and early 80's.  Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knows if he is still living?  Thanks for your time....

There's always someone who has a self-appointed mission to screw things up for everyone, no matter the topic. It was a small thing but, like crossing the river for a beer and tacos, it was one of those things that made the place so different from the rest of the cookie-cutter world.

Lost forever.

Wow! that's sounds like a grand tradition and something to look forward to ... I wish I was more into BiBe back in the day. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I hope you find Maggie!
