Flooding (was West Texas Rain Event)
« on: July 08, 2010, 07:26:43 PM »
Admin Note: this topic was split off from West Texas Rain Event

It has been like hell, i tell you. 40,000 homeless in all of the State so far. Our Mayor and three close friends perished yesterday in a plane crash, while they were overseeing some possible flood areas. We are at mourning because of this tragedy. A total of 8 victims. The Rio Grande river is at an all time high as we speak, several road bridges have given way due to the level of the waters. never have we experienced such an aftermath like this before.

15 gates out fo 16 in Amistad Dam, are open. I suspect Falcon Dam is wide open too, Luis L. Leon in Ojinaga (Presidio) has to be fully open as well. There is no chance in hell, anybody will be doing float trips anytime soon. The Rio Grande river is expected to get back to it's normal levels in about 12-16 more days. Brace for heavy floodings in Presidio, Lajitas and the surrounding areas. It is just incredible i tell you.

City services (water, electricity, phone, internet, gas) in Pedras Negras and Eagle Pass have shutting off then they are back online again. I only experienced lack of water and internet failure, the rest is ok.

My family and friends are all alright here, where it is high and somewhat dry.

Tresa Lenguas..what a fantastic video you took and the photo splice is spectacular.

 Good people of the board;

Unfortunately yes , i have to also share bad news. Eventhough i try not to, this sort of news just rips everyone to it's core because  8 good, law abiding, God fearing people perished in the plane crash, two days ago. Among them there were 4 close friends of mine which their absence hits home real hard.

My childhood friend Guillermo Ainsle...Willie as we knew him, his 19 year old son Willie Jr. and his older Brother Alfonso..Poncho as he was known. All good people, like the ones that are very scarce to find now a days. All died on impact , then their plane exploded after the crash. There was nothing that could be done....I have to say that right now, i am completely heart broken for their loss.

Willie and I, in The Los Ojos de Gabriela trip

The other friend, well he was the one who stand ed out more...he was the mayor of Piedras Negras but more important he was my lawyer,my confidant, agreat friend Pepe Maldonado. A man who was extremely humble,a self made man, always being there for the people, never closed his doors in city hall or his offices for anyone..ever.
He even bought a school bus, painted it Red and would go out into the poor areas of town, visit new construction sites, get involved in social programs...always hands on, with all his staff. He learn to drive the bus way back when he was a college student going to school in the day , driving a bus at night...a very successful and humble man, riding the Pepe Bus.

 May all rest in peace.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

 Yes, thank you.....thank you all.

You know i never met this gentleman: Horacio del Bosque , he was the state's Public Works Secretary, i am reading now something about his life. His motto was: "Quien no viene a esta vida a disfrutar el trabajo, vive en el purgatorio"...Who does not come into this life to enjoy work, lives in purgatory.

He was right, what deep and encouring words. I have learned something today.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

Goldilocks and I thought your situation deserved its own topic. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Stay safe and keep us informed.

Homero, I too have been reading about the flooding. When I passed over the bridge at Del Rio Sunday Amistad was already several feet high with the campground below the bridge inundated. A friend at work is trying as we speak to cross the river at Eagle Pass. His mother and family live just to the south and need help.

Even in tragedy there is beauty..... the circle of life goes on...... ever turning....

That said I can't apologize for some of the beautiful sights I saw this weekend, some I may never see again....

Homero,
I've never met you, but I was one of the sillys behind your sea of pictures from one of the group bender parties last spring FartyMarty, Goldilocks and others held. My heart goes out to you, your family, and your community. I'm so sorry for your loss.
