Title: Los Diablos
Post by: Andreas on June 20, 2014, 09:28:49 AM
just came across this short article:

http://alpinedailyplanet.typepad.com/alpine-daily-planet/2014/06/mens-journal-report-los-diablos-are-the-elite-us-firefighters-from-mexico.html

Jerry, who is mentioned in the article, had been my "personal guide" during my visit to Boquillas back in Sep. 2013 and had talked about the missions of "Los Diablos" in Arizona from June 2013 and California in July 2013 in some detail.

Jerry is a super great guy and those Diablos are real heroes. Just goes to show that much of the fear we have of our neighbors is baseless ignorance.

Reasonable people should fear criminals.  Be it the mojados, or the organizations that transport the illegals.

The Diablos are neither of these. But the same organization transports both groups throughout the country.  I still say it is silly that the border patrol looks in the back of my truck at Marathon for illegal stowaways when all they need to do is look in the back of their vans.

Is the check point still open?

My only problem with the Diablos is that they never let me win a game of pool at the Boquillas bar, and I ended up buying all the beer.

Ranger Tim, I couldn't agree more with your statement!

Jerry is a super great guy and those Diablos are real heroes. Just goes to show that much of the fear we have of our neighbors is baseless ignorance."

The checkpoints are all still open. The new station near Del Rio (I think) is coming along but not finished
