I agree with oldfatman, slow down smell the flowers and maybe take a second trip another time.

Agreed. I've been out there almost two dozen times in the last 10 years and feel like I'm just getting started. :icon_biggrin:

One thing to keep in mind, regardless of how much or little you try to do each day: it ALWAYS takes longer to drive somewhere than you believe it will.

Even getting around BIBE itself takes a bit of time, as the park is over 800,000 acres and the speed limit on all paved roads is 45mph.  And trust me, they do patrol those roads for speeders.

I would pass on White Sands.  After about 5 minutes you will have seen what there is to see, which isn't much.  I agree that a half day is sufficient for Carlasbad Caverns.  Two hours (if that) if you take the elevator down.  But either way, at least it is interesting, something that White Sands is not.

You have gotten lots of good advice regarding Big Bend.   Divide the park into sections (mountains, west side, east side, River Road) and hike around in each section.  You won't be disappointed with any of them.  My personal favorites:

1.  South Rim (if you do nothing else, you have to do this hike, whether as an overnighter or as a long day hike)
2.  Lost Mine
3.  Pine Canyon
4.  Mule Ears Spring and beyond
5.  Dodson Trail from Homer Wilson Ranch to the top of the first ascent
6.  Santa Elena Canyon
7.  Cattail Falls
8.  Hot Springs (and plan on getting IN the springs, not just hiking to them)

Wake me when it's time to go.
