2443 miles?  Wow, that must have been quite the 'scenic route' from Dallas to BIBE.

Yes, I am afraid that this story will require more than a couple of cold ones to get through. . . .
And there are plenty more where that one comes from!
I am a Scout leader and all the boys in our troop say I tell the "best stories"
Meanwhile all the other adults just roll their eyes and groan!

We need to try to organize a "bender" somewhere centrally located so that people from the 4 major metro areas in Texas that seem to be represented here can all meet and "swap lies." It may take a whole weekend though, from what I have read so far!
Are we there yet?

lol... no need to apologize... I think there's only me and 1 guy in Tulsa that has posted recently on this board.  Just don't call me a 'sooner'!  (OSU graduate).  :)

QS: hope you guys have a great time!  I didn't make to the top of Gold Hill, as the day I tried to ascend the wind was blowing 40+ mph and it was sleeting (in August!).  I only had on shorts and a cotton T-shirt so figured not worth the risk.

Wow, we've kind of drifted off-topic here, but I have yet to figure out where to split stuff off and where to put it... :eusa_think:

I don't know how many times I've done that... almost did it Wednesday but couldn't get "my spot" since someone beat me to it. Work people where whining about stuff I owed them too... otherwise I would have been in the park by 1pm and headed home the next day. Every hour in BiBe is worth the journey to get there...

I know this is an old post, but if I stick to answering just the title question, then my answer would be I wouldn't go at all.  BIBE is too far from civilization to spend a 14 hour car ride to only visit for 24 hours.  A National Park like Grand Canyon that is within an hour of I-40 might be different, but not a park so remote as BIBE.  BIBE is a destination park, not a 'stop for the day' park.  It's just too big to see but a narrow slice in a single day.
And on the other hand, a "bender" like me would detour off my I-10 route to Phoenix just to drop down and drive thru the Park, sometimes on to Terlingua, Lajitas, the River Road to Presidio, and back to I-10 thru Marfa!
