BB Next Week!
« on: October 12, 2007, 09:10:54 PM »
Couldn't go this week as planned.

Can't go in November on the back up plan.   :willynilly:

Soooo...I'm going next week!   :eusa_dance:

This will be a kinda-sort-mostly spur of the moment trip. I usually spend a long time getting myself and equipment ready for a safari to BB. This time I'm just going to throw things in the car and go. Since I'm a sucker for dark skies, that means that the big telescope will be left behind (sorry old friend!) and I'll take the smaller, much more portable 10" scope. Much more room in the PT Cruiser that way.

I have a new camera and a new macro lens so this trip will (hopefully) be more of a photo op than an observing run. I plan to hike some old favorites; Lost Mine Trail, Window & up the Oak Spring Trail and Grapevine Hills. Speaking of GVH, what's best for really dramatic light...morning sunrise or evening sunset?

If time permits, I may try Devils Den which I've never done.

All in all, it will be great to just get out there and see what transpires. I have Eric Clapton's new autobiography as my "heavy" read (gotta get into UK speak mode as he uses British words like "mum" and "flat") and a new James Patterson paperback as my "light" read. Between the books, the camera, stargazing and hiking, I should be able to fill my days adequately!

Pics and trip report sometime after next week!

Bill, are you going to take pictures of the Universe through your telescope, or am I miss reading your post?

Hi Al!
I'm strictly a visual observer so no imaging through the scope. I'll probably take a pic or three of the scope.  :icon_mrgreen:

P.S. Patterson's "Cross" is a very good read.  It's incredibly dense and concise.
