Need suggestions for backpacking trip
« on: March 06, 2007, 02:16:24 PM »
My 13 year old son and I are planning a 2 night backpacking trip to BIBE.  Our current plan is to arrive in the morning on Friday, March 9, but we could be delayed until the week of March 12-16.  If we are lucky and beat the Spring Breakers, our plan is to do a 2 night backpacking trip to the South Rim.  However, if the Spring Breakers beat us, we need a plan B, and I need suggestions for that.

My preference is total mileage of 10-15 miles roundtrip and will consider either the mountains or the desert.  We will be packing food and water and have a moderate amount of backpacking experience.  We have camped  in the Basin before and have hiked the Window and Lost Mine trails.   I want to keep increasing my son's love for backpacking, so routes with some good oohs and aahs would be great.  I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

i would stick with your South Rim idea as much as possible. if you arrive first thing Friday, you shouldn't have a problem securing a good site at some point during your trip (though you may have to wait a couple of days somewhere else).  Another great dayhike is Pine Canyon. You'll need high clearance vehicle to get there.....others will contribute.....
