Newbie working out timing and distances
« on: February 24, 2017, 09:33:11 PM »
Hi there! I have been lurking on this chat board for some time now and have learned a bunch. I have to get serious with the planning now. I have planned a 4-5 day stay in Terlingua in late March to spend time in Big Bend. My map shows me about 45 miles of driving from Terlingua entrance to Rio Grande Village and nearby hikes. How long would that usually take? I know we will stop along the way, but to plan out a few short to medium hikes in a single day I need to factor in the drive times. Videos on YouTube usually show 25mph speed limit signs. Is that park wide?

Nope, not at all. Most of the park has a 40mph speed limit, if I remember correctly. The 25mph limit usually only applies in the quarter mile or so around facilities.

Park wide the speed limit is 45 except around places like Panther Junction.  It will take an hour to drive from the west entrance to RGV.

And welcome to the board!  Let us know if we can help more.
temperatures exceed 100 degrees F

Be very mindful of the posted speed limit, during busy times the rangers will give you a ticket for speeding
