Ready...Set...GO!!
« on: November 28, 2011, 06:47:45 AM »
T-minus 15 minutes and counting here in SA. Gotta load the last few things in the car, stop for a bag of ice and then it's a liesurely cruise out Highway 90 for about 8 hours. Hope to have a couple of hours of sunlight to set up and get the camp site organized before I crawl into 2 or 3 sleeping bags to try to stay warm tonight. Tomorrow is a hike out to Mule Ears spring. Wednesday or Thursday might be a hike up Emory Peak. We'll see how it goes. Report and pics next weekend.

Have fun!  We just got back.  I was 32 degrees yesterday morning at RGV.

Awesome!  Sounds like some good times ahead!
Ah Big Bend, we will soon return to reacquaint ourselves in our ritual of blood, exhaustion and dehydration. How can we resist the temptation to strip ourselves of the maladies of civilization?

I made it out okay yesterday. Got cold last night...upper 30s. Hiked out a mile past Mule Ears Spring today and was rewarded with a very nice vista
which included the "Back" side of ME. 6 miles round trip but worth it for the view. Gotta go clean up before it gets too cold.

I'm taking my grandson this coming Saturday.
Was Mule Ears Spring running?

Hi Reece!
Yes...water was flowing week before last. I can't compare the amount of flow to any time before because that was my first time to see the spring.

I'll second the idea to camp a little pass the spring. I went about a mile past the spring and there is a nice view of the "back" side of Mule Ears.
