Completely agree. That's why I think it's better to go up Laguna (earlier the better) in the morning when it's least warm, and come down the Pinnacles when the day is REALLY hot. And, Tulip....it would be much to your advantage to re-book if you can. There is always the Basin Lodge (though $$$), but you can't beat the convenience, except it makes it harder to hang out in Terlingua in the evening. As long as you guys aren't coming during Labor Day weekend, you might still be able to find something in the lodge. One plan you might consider: book your first two nights in the Lodge (you can still explore Terlingua on your first afternoon, then drive up to the Basin Lodge which is convenient to your next day's hike up to and back down from the rim). Then book your third and final night in Terlingua (relatively convenient coming from the Ross Maxwell Drive and allows you to return to Terlingua and enjoy it's funky hospitality on your final night in the Bend).Again, good luck and have fun!
