The July 4 long weekend sounds tempting, but I am a judge/referee for the Third "Sixth Annual Violet Crown Social Club Independence Day Invitational" here in Austin.

However, I am thinking seriously about a mad-dash weekend trip this weekend -- it's been over a year since I've been out there.

What kind of beer do you all like?

FREE

and COLD

I'm already south of I-10 and will be headed to Port Aransas on the 30th for a family vacation.  Mom will be wicked pissed if I don't show.  Looks like I get to stay in the shadows again.

I'm goin' to Pt.Aransas too, but still not sure if its going to be the last week of June or first week of July...who knows, maybe we can do our own version of the BiBe in the shores, Roy could join us there and who ever else lives near .

I'll even cook my version of the live goat for you all.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

Rain

It's been raining in Alpine since last night - a slow, soaking rain.  The clouds are dancing around the mountain peaks and the temperature is in the 60s.

I'm seeing the trend too, and it's been putting a smile on my face for the past few days.  Hopefully we haven't jinxed it.

Let it be hot, let it be cold, I don't care as long as I'm THERE.  (hee hee, that ryhmes)

Yea, I checked the Alpine weather about 15 minutes ago, my jaw dropped at the 61 degree temp!

Has been overcast and cool all day, but no rain. Looks like it is all north of the park. Wife was in Alpine today and said it was as Joe described...a nice steady light rain.  Come on South, rain!! Fire danger has been abated with the high humidity.
The opinion expressed above is my own and not that of the National Park Service or the Federal Government.

Thanks, Bdann. I think so, too.  I feel like I've come home  :D

If I wasn't so busy with the end of the semester (finals next week), I'd come down to the Basin and drink a beer with you.  I will be at Cattail Falls on Friday with my plant taxonomy class, but we're returning to Alpine Friday afternoon.

Have a great trip!

Daily report for Saturday 7-1-6 did not get updated on the server, so I can't see what the offical days activites are/were for Bdann...

Didn't see him in any of the pics...

Better button up the tent BDann, might storm tonight...  Nothing like a good storm while camped at Laguna Meadow 8)
