You Know Your Departure Is Close...
« on: August 25, 2010, 07:06:00 PM »
...when you can see the first day of the trip on the 10 day weather forecast! Weather looks good so far!

I'll be in Davis Mountains a week from this Friday to attend the Big Bend Balloon Bash for a couple of days starting Saturday the 4th. I'll be staying in Davis Mountains State Park for a few nights before going up to GUMO for a few more days. Hopefully I'll be climbing Guadalupe Peak on my 55th birthday! :crossedfingers:

Time to get in the last miles of training before I go...and start packing!

While you are conquering Guadalupe Peak I will be conquering Gold Hill in NM. The elevation gain is about the same, good luck SA Bill!

Bill - I hope you have a great trip and are blessed with good weather.  At some point, just blind luck should bless you with perfect weather!  Are you camping at GUMO up in the bowl?  One thing I had problems with up there was bugs.  Might want to bring some bug spray if you are going to be someplace out of the wind.  The wind usually kept the bugs away while I was at Pine Springs and Dog Canyon.

Oh man!  I know what you mean about getting excited that the date is coming near!  We have 27 days to get through before we head out to the Garden.  I will be spending my birthday in Big Bend as well; I turn 43 on the 23rd.  There is a full moon on that date, the first day of Autumn, and we plan on spending that evening out near Mule Ears proper, hopefully with a nice night sky above us, if it isn't cloudy. No party for me, just some nice quiet with perhaps an owl making his call, and my girl by my side.

Good luck on your trip!
Ah Big Bend, we will soon return to reacquaint ourselves in our ritual of blood, exhaustion and dehydration. How can we resist the temptation to strip ourselves of the maladies of civilization?
