Great report. I dont see much written about the river road. I have a bicycle trip planned for the River Road in October.  I have two days marked off for it.  Sounds tough.  I think it will be great!
Apprieciate the report.

THE PHOTOS ARE BEAUTIFUL. Where are the ruins located, amazing, just amazing photos? Are they only accessible by riding bike, or can they be reached by car? Ogfergie

Car? probably not. The ruins are towards the east end which is generally smoother than further west. Higher clearance than a passenger car is needed in the creeks and washes. Get the guidebook at the park office, it gives mileage to the highlights from each end of the road.

The worst day hiking > the best day in a cubicle.

Great trip report and pics!  Gives us an opportunity to see a part of the park some of us may never see.  I keep telling myself one of these BIBE trips I'm going to borrow my Dad's Jeep Wrangler and get on some of the backcountry roads.

river road isn't so much a bad road, as it is just plain rough. And DOESN'T follow the river. We came south on glen springs rd. to river then heaed west to the mine. after check around we doubled back east to the end at the village. Unless you are going to see a specific thing, I wouldn't pick it for a senic ride.
