There is good single malt Scotch and bad single malt Scotch, just as there is good blended Scotch and bad blended Scotch. This may not appeal to the single malt purists, however I do not limit myself to single or blended and really like The Dimple Pinch.

Water in my single malt is ice (frozen water) no more than three cubes depending on temp. The advantage to scotch is the morning is always a beautiful thing.

Long story short I have become friends with the Van Winkles of Pappy Van Winkle bourbon fame and they are rabid adherents to one or two 1" ice cubes and or just a splash of water to "open" the bourbon up and bring the aromatics out.  That is in a perfect world, otherwise neat is just fine which is how I enjoy it out on the trail.   :icon_biggrin:

An English man once told me something similar: shake the bottle before pouring and add a splash of water to release the flavors within.

I have 2 bottles of 12 yr old single malt that I'm saving. I received them as gifts on the day each of my children were born. I've had one bottle for 20 yrs and the other for 14 yrs. I told myself I was going to break the seal as each kiddo got off the payroll.

I wonder when that will be?

Better hurry and get under the portico, otherwise you are going to get wet.  Sit on down and join Captain Morgan and myself as we enjoy a late evening rain shower to settle the dust.

Have you met The Captain before?  He and I go way back and have had many adventures together.  I consider him a good friend, one with whom I can safely confide.  :icon_eek:  I used to run around with another buddy moons ago, a certain WL Weller, but he and I had a major falling out at Ratcliff Rec area years and years ago.  Haven't spoken to him since.  Wonder what happened to Ole Weller?  He had a nick name of 107 for whatever reason.  Might have to look him up again one of these days.  Then a very cute gal named Southern showed up and made a few adventures.  She liked to call herself Southern Comfort.  I wasn't comfortable being around her any longer.    Never did get along with Jim, you know, Jim Beam.  I run into him occasionally, but only if another friend brings him along.  Another friend and I, Jose, got into a big brawl one night, I can no longer stand to be around Jose.  He did show up in a pub while I was in the UK a few years back, and unfortunately we crossed paths again and it got very ugly.     He always wants to play this game "shot for shot" and I always lose.  I hate to lose.  Then, there is my friend Meister Jager - don't see him too often, but he's cool.  Oh, look who is joining us, it's the Colonel.  No, not Colonel Mustard, but Colonel Dewars - another good friend of mine.  This is going to be a long night, have another one on me.  I bet Jose shows his face before the night is out...

Aren't you glad you sat down and got out of the rain?

Thank you for the kind words.  I just happened to be on the puter calling the land down under - where women glow and men plunder...  Sing along if you'd like...

I have a recommendation for a guest on the portico.  Pappy, Pappy Van Winkle.  He's a young guy at 23 but a smooth operator.

Join me for breakfast this morning - I'll start off with black coffee please and wait for my guests to arrive.  Oh glass of water and a Harvey Wallbanger as well.  Might as well start the day off right.  It's going to be a scorcher.   ;)
