Camping @ Viewing Center
« on: August 29, 2019, 07:28:58 PM »
Myself and a few buddies will be in the area next April and we were wondering if it is okay to camp at the Viewing Center?

A couple of us have roof-top-tents, the other guys will likely just sleep in their vehicles.

Will this be a problem?

If you mean 'visitor center' and the national park, yep it will be a problem.

The NPS decidedly frowns on such activity with tickets.

If you're asking about the state park, somebody else will have to answer that.

Since this question was posted to the Marfa Board, my guess is the subject might be the Marfa Lights Viewing Area.

To clarify, I am talking about the Marfa Lights Viewing Area, not the state or national parks.

I can't imagine that the local law enforcement would be super jazzed about that. I'm driving by there today and I'll stop and see if there is anything posted.

Heck yeah Txlj!

I checked the viewing area and found no signage explicitly forbidding camping or overnight parking. That doesn't mean that you won't still get hassled by LE, but it is not posted anywhere in the parking area or viewing station.
