Title: Prada Marfa
Post by: Owl on December 06, 2011, 11:00:32 AM
Is Prada Marfa still up?  Is it photoworthy?

I read that it had been vandalized earlier in the year and consideration was being given to taking it down.

I've been wondering this myself, as in two weeks I'll be out that way (sadly no further south though).  If no one else has an answer, I'll report back in two weeks after driving the stretch of 90 northwest from Marfa to I-10!

It's there and repaired.  But if frequently gets graffiti sprayed on it.

I took several pics of it back on 08 and it was in pretty rough shape. But, it is my understanding the "artist" responsible for it was demonstrating the natural decay of an unused hardily built structure.  Repairing it would be counter productive to his purpose.  So, I don't get it.

I went by on October 25th 2011 and just gave it a look over and it seemed fine. All the small rocks holding down business cards on the ledge were gone. I wasn't aware of the earlier damage or I would have dismounted and done an inspection. It really should be called the Prada Valentine.
Here is a poor picture from my helmet cam.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who gets their hand in the shot when trying to shade the lens. ;)

Yeah, these aren't the greatest pics, that's why I've never really shared them.

At the risk of sounding like a suckup, I really like them. You made photographic art of art. Call it "Nested Art"?
My fav is this one (https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-CI8xq7iGX3M/S14-Jkrw8lI/AAAAAAAAdyc/qCk6tH5AJg8/s640/CRW_7947.jpg)
The curves really make it hard to crop out the shading hand (or whatever , {there go all my suckup points.}).
I would gladly trade shade hand included shots for for all the crappy lens flare shots I've taken over the years.
