Ahem...      I     DON'T    THINK      SO

The Ken Burns NPS love fest  :vomit: was so revolting  :vomit: :vomit: I had to spend muchisimo tiempo on 'other than NPS' lands to heal the rip he created in the space-time continuum. However, Ken did confirm my suspicions the NPS was and is in the entertainment business. I was disappointed they never sang Kumbaya in any episode.

Loved those parts about golf courses, fire falls, eradicating predators and the myriad other things of that ilk that the agency did in furtherance of 'preservation and protection' but which, of course, were anything but (except in furtherance of entertainment for the tourists). Perhaps the most startling revelation, which I actually found stunning that it was even admitted, was that Mather was in and out of mental institutions while director. Seems to have set a tone still in force.

Actually, while the love fest was revolting, I was just off on other endeavors but did go to my favorite BLM and USFS places. (note to Homero....if you don't expect photos, you won't be disappointed  :rolling:)

I am BAAAAAAACK!  :cool-thumb: :willynilly: :kaos-cactus06: Hmmmmmm....I wonder if not everyone will be overjoyed?  :icon_eek:

  s to everyone!  :eusa_dance:

I've got a lot of catching up to do.

It's great to have you back, Presidio.  This Board is way too smug and complacent when you are not around to stir things up.

By the way, where are your "favorite BLM places"?  Utah, by any chance?

Heck, I even went to Big Bend around Christmas. Eight days in the park and only had to deal with 2 employees....the poor sap at the tax booth and an LE ranger that checked our backcountry permit. At the risk of stirring something up, both were very nice and professional, unlike a particular buffoon a year earlier who couldn't figure out that a bunch of vehicles parked in a combination backcountry campsite/trailhead during daylight hours did not constitute a violation of vehicle limits for camping. 30 seconds at the tax booth and maybe 3 minutes at the campsite. Just about the right amount of interface if I must have it at all.

Did not hike a single official tourist-approved trail, but did a bunch of off trail stuff in the desert. Never saw another tourist except those that wandered into the campsite lookie-louing...they didn't hang around long and they mercifully did not bother us. Rather interestingly, almost none of them got more than 15 feet from their vehicles as they must have determined there was nothing more to see beyond the edge of the parking area. Hint to park-variety tourists: It may look flat out there, but it isn't. You would be amazed at what can hide in seemingly open vistas.

All my hikes were done using my patented method of "I haven't been THERE before. Pick a spot; hike in one way and out another". As is always the case, we found remarkable things that most NPS tourists never learn about since they are too busy ticking off the trails in the guidebooks. Also, never went in any of the visitor centers.

I did take a couple of photos so maybe I'll put a few on here in a couple of weeks. Can't do it sooner since I'm off on BLM adventures again and all the pix are on the home computer. However, I will not reveal the locations as that spoils the adventure of finding things on your own.

Presidio, just give us a big "HOWDY" (if you can find it in your heart) since Texas still does that voodoo that Texas does so well.

Hmmm. So far, don't see too much to get riled up over. That probably will change.

Sure, there are plenty there but I haven't been on BLM land in Utah in quite a few years. The San Rafael Swell is a good place that gets few tourists, plus the areas around the national parks in the south end of the state are virtually ignored by the teeming masses hurrying to their next passport stamp and entry fee opportunity.

Most of my wanderings are NM with a little AZ thrown in for variety.

Great, Grumpus Maximus is back in town.  Welcome back!  :eusa_liar:  I see you have your Debbie Downer guns all loaded up and ready to bring everyone back to the reality that we all live in a hopelessly bureaucratic nightmare where everything sucks.

If we're lucky maybe you'll do something other than bitch and moan about everything.  Wait, I just woke up.  Was I sleeping there?

I don't see the button anywhere on the screen that forces you to read anything I post. :rolling: :eusa_think:  :eusa_naughty:

Hey! I gave two of the parkistas atta-boys for my recent (mercifully brief) contacts with them. Doesn't that count for anything?  :icon_eek:  :eusa_dance: I never give them any reason to check on me, yet still they come around.

I don't click on the animated ads that are on every web site on the internet...but they still annoy the crap out of me.
