Cynta and another lady started the Boquillas Quilt Project and raised lots of $, donations, and sold quilts in the BB for the folks of Boquillas after the "infamous" May 10th 2002 BP actions in the BB.  They would take lots of $ and other donations,(the long way) and to pick up the quilts of cottage industry of making quilts organized by Cynta, to Presidio, Ojinaja, San Carlos, (and then the roads really get bad) on to Boquillas many, many times.  Recently, US Customs has determined these efforts can't be continued.

Oh yes, i vouch for the labor of the lady, she has done many things for Boquillas del Carmen. I don't know much about the roads coming from Ojinaga all the way to Boquillas, but i can tell you the roads coming in from Acu?a or Piedras Negras all the way down to Cuesta de Malena  are a cake walk. From then on to Ejido Jaboncillos, Las Norias then on to Boquillas are very well leveled. They are still dirt roads, but exceptionally maintained.

Maybe it is time for Cynta to head back to Boquillas and pick up a big load of quilts , so she can continue her business. U.S. Customs can not say there is wrong doing in bringing the quilts the right way. It is a hassle, but doable.

I know of a better way to do this,if interested. There is a bus that goes once a week to Boquillas, they can send the quilts by bus all the way to Piedras Negras and we can find a way to cross the quilts, legally, to the U.S.

Nice pics on the blog, as usual.

P.S. I keep a small windfoil-style kite in my car for my daughter. :icon_biggrin:
