I doubt the racetrack proposal will be a success.  Cresson (been there) is a huge success because of the proximity to the Metroplex.   TWS in College Station (been there) failed because it was not set up to accommodate huge crowds -- both at the facility and surrounding hotels.  The track itself is GREAT and rivals the high speed ovals at Talladega and the Metroplex.  The facilities suck.

One thing to keep in perspective is that the local economy starves 6 months out of the year.  Having visited often and as a property owner, I can vouch for that.  There are always going to be novel entrepreneurial schemes to infuse more money into the area.   I can't blame people for that.

As our tagline says, “If We Build It, Will You Come?”

I filled out the survey, saying I would arrive in my private plane and would be staying at the hotel and would be interested in an undeveloped lot so that I can build a house and will attend all of the race events!    :rolling:

I also signed up for the email list.

Big Bend Open Road Race

http://www.bborr.com/

I seem to recall a few years ago it ran into some financial problems with Alpine or something along those lines?  Or is that some other race?  Seems to me it ran something like from Fort Stockton to Alpine and around...  Maybe it was something different?  Also, wasn't there a Corvette race out there at one time?

BBORR runs from Ft Stockton to Sanderson.  The deal is set up so the tow towns share the proceeds.  The first few days are set up in Sanderson, the last few in Ft Stockton so hotels and meals are spread out evenly.  They also share entrance fees... I think.  The last year I raced in the upper division, the fee was over $600.

I guess there was some in fighting that Sanderson was not getting there fair share or something and the race was almost abandoned at one point.

I few years ago they also ran a Fall race -- The Roadrunner.  It ran from Ft Stockton to Marathon.  I ran it 2 years and I think it was canceled in '08 maybe.  When fuel got close to $4/gallon, many of the folks could simply not afford to drive from all over the country to participate.  Many racers come from place like Detroit, Chicago,  LA, Reno, and Portland,OR each and every year.

In the Who Cares department: I have absolutely no problem with this.  Life is hard in the desert.  To the extent this project contributes to life and the economy of the desert: more power to it!

This is awful. It would ruin the area, as far as I'm concerned. They're going to race cars in July and August in the middle of the desert? These people are insane.
