Starlight and/or La Kiva hours of operation
« on: December 18, 2008, 02:42:58 AM »
I have never been to either one.  This weekend husband, sister, and I are going camping in the Chisos for a couple of nights and want to head to one of these for dinner.  We don't want to drive all the way over there at night if either or both places are going to be closed.  So, are these places open on the weekend evenings?  How late?  Which would you suggest?  We plan to go either Saturday or Sunday for dinner.  Many thanks.

Can you do Friday night?

Either one is great fun!  Both will be open for your dining pleasure!

So, what happened here was that somebody was on the internet, and went to an internet forum to ask a question. Then, somebody else was on the internet, saw the question, went to possibly a search engine or another webiste, came back to the forum, answered the question and posted the link as well...

Hmmmm, seems we have an untapped business opportunity?  :eusa_think:

Um, yeah, if doing other people's internet searches paid well I wouldn't be taking that "lateral" transfer next year to a subsidiary created especially so they can cut our benefits. :pissed:

Gee, thanks so much for pointing that out for me.  :icon_rolleyes:

I did google Starlight Theater and did not see hours posted on the website I found.  It looked like it had not been updated in a year.  edit: oh good lord, I went back to the website and it appears if it was a snake if would have bitten me.

Whickums,
I took a longer look at the Starlight's website, and I see what you mean about it needing an update. And it would help if they'd make their hours a little easier to see. But unless something weird happens (and we all know nothing weird ever happens in Terlingua, only in Austin), both La Kiva and the Starlight should be open for business this weekend.

Personally, I prefer the food at the Starlight, but La Kiva gets good reviews, too. Enjoy the Park this weekend!

Thanks for the help.  We are now back, and decided to do Starlight on Sunday night due to the cold front that blew in.  I was impressed with the menu!  My sister and my husband split a Diego burger after I had read about a bunch of people on here ordering them during their trips.  I could not believe how big that thing was.

It's been my finding through MANY visits now that the Starlight is STILL the best dining experience! A friend of mine and I went to LaKiva once, sat for 15 minutes, and were both totally ignored, as if we weren't even there! The smoke was more than we could stand. The Starlight was our next stop. I haven't been back to LaKiva since!

Enjoyed both for different reasons, Starlight Food and Drink, La Kiva folks and drink, food ok. Starlight Uptown in a laid back manner, La Kiva just laid back you can't miss with either. Glenn runs a nice bar, just don't be in a hurry. Visit both and enjoy, wife and I usually visit Starlight for dinner then hit La Kiva for drinks. On when just me and a couple of buddies, just sit on front porch at General Store for drinks, then Starlight for drinks, then La Kiva for drinks, hit camp and enjoy stars and drinks, oh yea Food. :eusa_dance: :eusa_dance:

Undertaker is on the money. The food is different/better at Starlight but sometimes it is too busy and touristy. La Kiva is a great bar just don't be a tourist and be in a hurry, you have to absorb the atmosphere. I have had some great nights at both.  :kaos-cactus06:

The smoke was more than we could stand.

I'm getting so that I can't even tolerate small amounts of smoke in a restaurant or bar. While we went to the Starlight back in January I can't remember if it was smokeless or not. But we did have a great time and I can't imagine a better experience after a long backpack (other than a shower).

I think La Kiva used to have better food a long time ago.  I agree with Undertaker and others who say La Kiva is best for drinks and ambiance.  Catching the live music helps too.  The service seemed slow to me at times but that may be because I am used to be slightly rushed and have gotten used to that over the years at restaurants in the city.

Undertaker, you sure waste a lot of time eating! Loosen the tie and belt, kick off the shoes, and relax. Skip the food and enjoy a liquid meal. Life is too short to wast time on eating!
