Thanks Richard,

The Blog that describes our adventures fixing up La Kiva can be found at La-Kiva.com and I just checked minutes ago and it is up and running.

The business was not for sale when I bought the building because the executors of Glenns estate knew they did not have a running business, liquor licence, business records nor any of the other things that you normally get when you buy a business.  They were careful not to create false expectations and were above board the whole time.  I did buy the intellectual property, the name and the rights to use it so we will still be La Kiva.

Yes, I paid too much for the building but I knew what I was getting and I knew what it would take to rehabilitate it so you will hear no complaints from me.

Someone was speculating that it would cost as much as $100,000 to bring the building up to code.  I think it will be more than that, much, much more than that.  New roof, new floor, new kitchen, new electrics, new septic system with 1000 gallon grease trap and two lift stations with macerators, new cold room, new barbecue shack and barbecue pit and on and on.

I hope to see you all when we re-open.

Clearly a labor of love on your and Josie's part.  We and I am sure the whole Terlingua community salute you.  Can't wait to come in the next time I am down there and as Richard said welcome to Big Bend Chat.   :great:

Best of luck getting everything up and running.  Unfortunately, I've only been in La Kiva once - after a long raft trip down the river near there...

Hopefully you'll be open Spring Break of 2015 - my son and I will be doing our annual BIBE trip and will definitely stop by if you are...

Congrats and welcome.

Glad to see that La Kiva will still be around and retain as much history and respect for the previous owners as possible.

Reading comments on your blog, it appears you are already receiving a warm welcome.

Best of Luck

Don

Ran across some old slides from my MUCH younger days and found this one of La Kiva from 1987.  SABill and I had just come off a rafting trip down the Rio Grande and stopped here for dinner...

I don't know all the details of the case, but I do know that if I ever get in trouble with the law I want that lawyer and that jury.
