Drug Smugglers
« on: July 24, 2012, 04:58:26 PM »
Went on a river trip through the Lower Canyons in January. Just recently finished editing a river trip video. The part where we run into drug smugglers is about half way through the video. Canon 7d. Tokina Wide Angle Lens. Enjoy!!!!

Very nice, and I really dig the soundtrack!  What a great trip.

Moderators: This is where this video should be. You should remove the rest and keep this one.

Ran into some drug smugglers in January on the Lower Canyons. The video below has some brief footage of them, but I wasn't about to stick a camera in their faces in such a remote place. This part starts on 6:05, and the rest of the video is of the other parts of my trip. Enjoy!

Where can I score a recording of the Dirt Flood song that plays in the latter half of the video?  I tried googling him, but could not find anywhere to download a copy of that song.  Help a brother out.

Good question, Reece.  Was the call made, perhaps, on their appearance?

I seem to get profiled quite a bit when I am in the park.  But they can search me all they want.  I do have a problem with getting pulled over for a 48 in a 45, though. It is hard to keep it under 45 when on some of the downhills, and that's where I get pulled over --- usually a couple miles west of PJ.

It's happened so often, I expect it now.
Ah Big Bend, we will soon return to reacquaint ourselves in our ritual of blood, exhaustion and dehydration. How can we resist the temptation to strip ourselves of the maladies of civilization?

How do you know they were drug smugglers? Did they share?

I think they spoke of 2 groups of five or so people, all of them carrying humongous packs. And it doesn't look like they were following any established hiking trails, and they weren't in BiBe or BBRSP either.

Sure, it's stereotyping, but I'd say that puts the probabilities of illegal activity well above 90%...

What do you think, people south of the border only hike with day-packs?
