I have never seen the desert more stressed in my 40 years of going to Big Bend.  Please rain, rain and rain some more!

Just 18 months ago it was nice and green.

I agree, let's do a rain dance!

Haven't seen a jackrabbit, sparrow, quail, roadrunner at my place outside Terlingua in months and months, normally
the place is alive with them.  Accustomed to fresh javelina & deer tracks in the driveway every morning, haven't seen them
in months.  Truly sad to behold .........  about 1.6 inches of rain since September 2010.

I agree.  We just got back from a five day visit and the vegetation is in the worst state I have ever seen it.  We stayed five nights at PC 3, never saw a single bit of wildlife and only one small finch-like bird.

Ya.  There aren't birds, there aren't even bugs!

Yesterday we had rain!  Steady at times and on and off all day!  Made our eyes and all of our senses glad.

Caught maybe 300 gallons in our water catchment!  Gorgeous day.  GREEN in Boquillas Canyon!

Today, a deep fog!

The daily report says up to .3" so far for the month depending on location.  Is this enough to make any difference?

Will it look any different to me in mid March than it did in late December?

It's already making a difference.  Saw at least one ocotillo today with green leaves beginning, several with orange flames beginning and bluebonnets one mile east of Panther Junction!  More green starting everywhere!

The plants are sMiling!

A facebook friend taught a bunch of us a wonderful word last week,
"petrichor"  which is defined as the smell of warm earth following a rain,
far better than Chanel #5

I was just checking the weather radar and it looked like some rain moved through the park today, or sometime between maybe 4 and now (8:55 PM 02/16/12) looks like some more just popped up

Heavy late-afternoon t-storms in smoky Ck, and throughout our hike out to mule ears overlook. Massive t-storms in distance near Mesa anguila. Chisos obviously drenched at times. Watched non-stop lightning over quemada from sotol overlook for 30 minutes. Intermittent downpours & hail in study butte tonight.

Got about .20 last night and about the same a week ago.  Brings the total for the last 18 months to almost two inches ...... outside Terlingua.

Got an inch here today and it's still raining but Lake Travis is only 37% full.  We still need a lot of rain.

Oh, yes!  Tiny green things everywhere!

LOTS of pictures here along the Hot Springs trail and the Nature trail in Rio Grande Campground.

Another quarter of an inch fell at our adobe last night.

Bluebonnets scattered wildly.

It's time to load up your vehicle and come on down to watch our world come back to life@@

Cattail?

I've been wondering the same thing.

I just got back to Austin on Monday, and we camped Thurs-Sat nights in the Basin.  The daily reports of the first two nights said something like 1.20+ inches fell over both as I recall, and if you saw our stuff hanging in trees on Saturday you'd believe it...but after the first night, with just under 0.3", we made it out to Cattail after Emory.

Full trip report and pictures to come this week, but yes, Cattail had a slow, steady trickle-of course we were thinking it wasn't going to rain another 0.89" that night and could've waited a day for probably a better flow!   :banghead:
