FYI - really heavy rain in the park yesterday, especially on the west side.
Quote
Santa Elena Canyon Road has been closed. Blue Creek is flashing and there is significant flooding on the road as well as large amounts of debris.  Maverick Road also experienced significant flooding and flashing about 4 miles north of Santa Elena Canyon Road, in the Alamo Creek area and is currently closed. There is a large section of the road that has been washed away. Expect rough and muddy conditions on all Backcountry roads, with multiple washouts and debris in roadways.  High clearance 4x4 vehicles are required on all Backcountry roads.

Remember, and remind others: Turn around, don't drown! Do not drive through water on roadways

Stay safe!
Dang, I want to see Blue Creek in flood some day!

Probably talking about where it crosses the Santa Elena Rd. It flashes there frequently. Alamo Creek flashes near there too.
If it's flashing near Homer Wilson, you probably don't want to be in the park!!

I understand being on the safe side when it comes to privacy. But for what it's worth, not only did they cover over the license plate but also photoshopped the logo on the side of the jeep...

I don't think the object was to protect privacy....more like avoiding negative advertising.

Wife and I are taking off for Marathon in few minutes. Teenagers with jobs hopefully will hold down the fort. Plan to camp in the Basin for 3 nights after spending the night in Marathon. No longer concerned about augmenting my water up in the Chisos...

First post here, but I will be heading there Thursday for a 4 day trip. Going to camp at the Basin Thursday night then do the South Rim for 3 nights. Plan on staying at Laguna Meadows Friday then South Rim Saturday and Pinnacles Sunday. Just take our time and take photos with my camera. Im a film guy so I will be shooting Velvia 50 with my Mamiya 6. Sounds like there should be some water up there, but I will check on Thursday with the ranger. Is Boot Canyon pretty much the only place to look for water or is there other places I should go check that may be close to the trail?

You could try Upper Cattail Canyon, which is not too far from Laguna Meadow. After recent rains there could be some pools or maybe even some running water.

Hike downstream as far as the dam and your chances improve. It's a bit of a bushwhack though.

Don't forget to come back and post a water report......
