That's an equally cool story, Hang10er. I do know where Encinal is, and when you mentioned it I thought, "yeah, I can see a mountain lion out there...tough living, but possible."  The one I ran into didn't make a peep, either. Amazing, isn't it? Like ghosts.

Plenty of deer, rabbit and javelina near Encinal.

Yeah, I figured javelina and lots of smaller mammals. But is there plenty of forage for deer year-round? What do they eat? Pricklypear?

Mainly browse - tender shoots on the brush species and forbs. But lots of other stuff.

Thanks, indeed, Imre.  That last shot is now my screen saver.  My pulse rate slows considerably every time I look at it.....

As of July 31st (this past Monday) Boot spring was flowing nice.  I figure it is good for a while too because the creek was flowing as well.  It is starting to dry up though.  The creek was flowing pretty good up where the trail is blasted into the wall, but down lower near the spring, the creek was only slightly flowing.  Should be good this week end!  A person could easily pull water from the creek if the spring slows down too much, but I would bet that the spring will always flow when the creek is flowing for any length of time.
The older I get, the more I realize what freedom really means.  May God bless America

Does anyone have a report for the Boot Canyon spring?  We're taking some Boy Scouts up there next week and wondering how much water to pack?

It's a week old now however I posted some pictures under the 'rain' thread. I would expect water would be no problem for anyone with a strong courage and a good filter.
