MDA Water
« on: August 21, 2017, 12:00:02 PM »
Any water reports from Mesa De Anguela? It has rained nicely in the last couple of weeks.

The weather forecast for the Big Bend area is nice for the next 10 days, mostly upper 70s.

I think I might go spend a week there starting this Friday, hike the Chisos and maybe MDA as well.

I'd be surprised if anyone was on the MDA in recent months. But given the recent rains, I agree there's likely to be water in the usual places. If you plan on relying on water from Blanca, just be prepared for a challenging 20 + foot climb down to the tinaja. Or use the bottle on a rope method described elsewhere on BBC.
I roamed and rambled, and I foller'ed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was a'sounding
This land was made for you and me

My weather app shows the Lajitas highs in the 90s for the next 10 days.

I saw rain in that direction this weekend.  But a couple scorching days may evaporate the easy to find water pretty quickly.

I checked weather.com for Big Bend, and I think it is the temperature at Panther Junction.

Definitely the bottle on a rope trick -- I always carry 50 feet of rope.

The weather forecast for the Big Bend area is nice for the next 10 days, mostly upper 70s.

I checked weather.com for Big Bend, and I think it is the temperature at Panther Junction.

Correction. If you type "Big Bend National Park" at weather.com, it gives you the temperature near Crown Mountain. But if you type "Panther Junction" it gives you the temperature there.

So the above temperatures I cited were for Crown Mountain, according to weather.com. The Temperatures at Panther Junction are about 5-10 degrees higher.

Still, great temps for Chisos camping and hiking.

The NPS website posts daily weather reports with data from 6 different locations in the park. There are also links to live data from the weather stations at PJ, Chisos, Persimmon Gap, and RGV.
