OML Water Report 2/3
« on: February 05, 2018, 08:09:09 AM »
Just got done with the OML. Didn't cache any water. Left Homer Wilson with 3 Liters.

There was a small pool of water at the trail in the drainage just before the Fresno Creek Spring.
Fresno Creek had small flow at the trail and more water farther downstream.

Upper Juniper Spring had small flow and a small pool just big enough to fill from. Took a while to filter here but it was flowing.

Boot spring wasn't flowing but there was quite a bit of water in the pools in Boot Canyon. So naturally, I picked the nastiest looking one and filtered from that.  Haha.

I wouldn't go depending on this but there was water that was a couple weeks old in the Juniper Canyon Trailhead box. And 20 gallons in bulk containers with no label that I assume was put there by the NPS. Could be wrong. But there was no label.

It also rained the first night of my trip. Quite a few small pools of water in depressions of rocks. However, I would think they would be gone within a couple days.

Thanks for the update, Wrangler88. Always useful, even to those of us that aren't planning on being there soon. Glad you made it back safely, and really looking forward to your trip report!

Great report and happy to see that the water is still holding up well in the backcountry.  That 10th of an inch of rain didn't really do much.  Also glad to see you were smart and didn't feel the need to cache water at Juniper and used the natural sources.  Can't wait to see your report.  Thanks!

I knew it didn't rain a lot. People I talked to who stayed in the Basin said it only rained once on them. It rained 2 different times on me on the eastern Dodson. 1st for about 45 minutes. Then after an hour break, again for another hour or two.
