See the bottom of the article on the road rerouting around Lajitas and the possible loss of access to Mesa de Anguila.

Shanea...I have heard of that Mesa...but have not been there.  Sounds like a place worth visiting next time I am at Big Bend?

Nice Hike

It's really a nice hike.  We didn't "go all the way" - just to the summit and observed the golf course from on high - the view of the mighty Rio Grande was very cool.  Good day hike.  Very few people.  Kinda hard to find the trail head - it's over behind the golf cart maint./storage area.  A very green golf course in the desert, sucking up all the water, something just does not seem right.  Maybe Steve Smith should do like they do in the Persian Gulf where golf is very popular and play from grass mats and on oiled greens.  Even the Arabs don't waste that much water trying to maintain bentgrass greens and lush fairways!

Anguila = Eel
The Mesa of Eels

When they were naming the place, I wonder if they intended to call it Mesa de Aguila, The Mesa of Eagles?
