Hi y'all.......spent 1/2 a day there on my study tour in 10/05. Went to the observatory, Prude Ranch and had a lovely lunch at Indian Lodge with some nice presentations and slideshows. Any personal recommendations? We were in and out so fast, I was thinking of going back for a weekend jaunt. Been to all associated websites, just looking for the "Bender's Perspectives"  :D

Can never get enough of McDonald and the star parties.  I can never retain all the stars and constellations names, etc.  Did do a specialized tour that they offer for viewing from the large telescopes, etc.  They even have a dinner plan and overnight facilities.  Other than that, the cool waters of Balmorhea.  If you have never been there, it is will worth the time.  Be sure and take a mask, snorkle, and fins - it is not worth your time if you do not have these.  Lots of fish to see, turtles, etc.  Really cool - even in cold weather the water is always something like 72.

Yeah I was going to ask about Balmorhea too....definitely need to do a star party. Everyone I met there seemed pretty cool and down to earth like they would be fun to party with too. Only thing is I heard that there were some strange "groups" that reside in the Davis Mountains that want to take over the world or something like that? (Dr Evil) "are ya hungry Mini Me....would you like a hot pocket?"

Oh well.  Do it the hard way, it's a good site.  I'd also recommend 118 north to Kent;  keep your eyes peeled on the east side ot the road for longhorns ( the four footed kind).

Now, how do I post a link on this site?  Anyone?

Roy, I think you just needed to space between your period is all.....
If you copy and paste your addy it should automatically underline it. Just can't be next to any other characters without a space......hope this helps!
Anyway I did go to it by pasting it in my address bar anyway....TYVM!!

Strange groups

Probably reference to "The Republic of Texas" outfit  (hopefully, not The Major).   This bunch, basically a milita type fringe group, maitained that Texas had never been legally admitted into the USA, so was still an independent nation.  And that they were the legitimate government of that nation.  They were located near Ft. Davis.  They "elected" a government,  "enacted" laws, issued currency, etc..  Heavily armed and confrontational.  They eventually went completely over the edge, invaded a ranch and took hostages which led to an extended standoff with the authorities.  Most eventually surrendered, one was killed while trying to escape through the mountains, and the last was eventually caught;  don't remember the circumstances, but he had been on the run for quite a while.

They're still around, although I don't know where they are headquartered these days.  I just checked their web site and they're hiring.  Need a job?

Another Group...

There is another group out there somewhere near San Angelo or some place like that - I think off of 190.  It was in the Houston paper a while back - building a big compound with high walls - well off the road.  Religious group.  Made me think of David Koresh (sp) and his Waco group - WACO - We Ain't Coming Out...

I think you're talking about the cult that has built a huge compound near the town of El Dorado (not too far from San Angelo).  Their leader is wanted by Arizona (I think) for child abuse since the group is into polygamy and child marriage.  I don't think we need to worry too much about them in the BB area--they have invested a lot of money to stay where they are.  They claim the leader dude isn't in the compound and the sheriff has been around a couple of times to check things out. So far, they haven't caused too much toruble in the local area but there is concern that the group might vote themselves into office and take over government in the sparsely populated county.
