Interesting short read on GOLD @ Monahans, another place I have sped by on my way to the Bend.  Make note in log book, must stop sometime.  Article is "really" about Oklahoma, but I thought I'd post it here.

I never saw any gold or water, but it was fun to play in dunes and slide down them on a disc you can rent at the park store.

Yep just black gold or oil and gas in abundance in the area but the park is worth a stop if you are in the area. I picked up some great wildlife photography posters they were selling in the gift shop for a very reasonable price when I was there in 2004.
