Shane reminded me of a great West-Texas-style Mexican restaurant in Alpine:

La Casita, 1104 East Avenue I (south of the railroad tracks, east of Highway 118), phone 432-837-2842.

It's in an old house in a residential area - very popular with the locals.

Mexican Plate

Order the Mexican Plate.  Outstanding.  Very cheap/reasonable prices - I think the Mexican Plate with three enchl., two tacos, rice and beans was about $6.  They have BEER too!  Great chips and salsa!  Warning!  It's crowded, it's that good!    It's right on the way from BIBE to Alpine on 118 as you enter into town before 118 does a slight "jog".  It's just south of the football field.
