I'm not sure how I feel about this....

Using my website, that is, to promote land in Terlingua Ranch at $400 per acre....

http://www.landparcels.us/texas/40terlinguaa.html

Quote
Terlingua Ranch borders on Big Bend National Park ( Virtual Tours ), Big Bend State Park and is just a few miles from the old Terlingua ghost town!!! There are a variety of activities you can take part in on the ranch--from active sports like hiking, 4-wheeling, and hunting to bird-watching, fossil and artifact collecting, and campfires under the stars. Terlingua Ranch even has its own airfield. You are also free to build on your property and enjoy the Terlingua weather year-round.

I guess they're not saying anything out of context, but to the unknowing land buyer, they may get the wrong impression.

Personally, I would ask them to remove the link. Your artistry should not be used by someone else's commercial enterprise without compensation.

David, did they even ask you?  I was thinking of using a link to virtual bigbend on a couple of websites that I have.  One is a personal website I am working on. The other is on our Fire Department Website, Highlandsfire.com. But these are not for any kind of profit; and only if its ok with you.  Oh and my kids, I think, have it on their myspace.

cool, starlit....consider yourself (and your kids) welcome to do what you want with the links to either site :)

no, they didn't ask...I don't even mind people linking to my site for commercial reasons so long as they're honest with their content....this isn't the first time a company like this has linked for the purpose of showing off the land around big bend as if to say, "Hey this is what you're going to enjoy on your property!"  I've always played a passive role in these sort of sites doing this but I don't want to be a party to their deception.

I agree with Jeff.  In addition to what he and you have said, you have nothing to gain by it being there either...unless you subscribe to the "any publicity is good publicity", which I don't think is true.

One thing to consider,

David's site does have links to other commercial sites.  I assume that he gets paid per click.

A bit of irony was that when I used their link to get to the "virtual tour" the first ad in the upper left was a competitor's.  Anyone who was seriously looking at their site, would also click on this link, David gets paid (albeit quite minimally...) and their competition gets a plug.
Funny... I have a story about that...

I would ask them at a minimum to list your name for the credits to your site.

speaking as a lawyer, if they are profiting from your work then you are entitled to compensation - proving they profited from your work is the difficult part
