Marathon Living with Nature Festival, August 4-6, 2006

Preview of Highlights:

Eco-Construction:

This year’s eco-construction workshops will feature Zack Rabon, of Mason TX, who has been perfecting formulas for “papercrete” bricks made of recycled paper and Portland cement—lightweight building materials with super-insulating properties which lend themselves to many creative applications. Together with Clyde Curry, proprietor of the renowned “Eve’s Garden Organic Bed and Breakfast,” Zack will demonstrate the practical and creative possibilities of this extraordinary building technique.

Off the Grid Living:

Abe Connally is an inventor, artist, and website designer who, with his wife Josie, has been developing wind generation, rainwater catchment, shelter, food production, and other systems that, when integrated, enable completely independent living—even in the harsh and challenging West Texas environment. Drawing from his years of practical experiences and success, Abe will conduct a series of workshops to show how off-the-grid independence can be achieved with intelligence and effort, but at very little cost.

PLUS: Nature seminars and birding field trips, ranch tours, arts, crafts and evening social events.

Tickets are $75 for individuals, and $130 for couples and can be ordered by calling 432 386-4257. For information and links to Marathon lodging-places, visit http://www.marathontexas.com.

Thanks, Joe...

We could all (collectively) take some lessons there.  Read a story the other day that there are plans for 11 new coal fired plants in Texas.  Just what we need to further reduce the visibility in the state and in Big Bend...

My thoughts exactly.  And one of those new coal-fired power plants is going to be built right here in San Antonio...

Speaking of those C.F.Plants....

This story was told to us from a retired member who use to work as a general superintendent in one of the two big Coal Fired power plants here in the area:

A good years a go,maybe 5-8 give or take. There was this chopper expedition from the 2 main C.F.plants in this area. Both Gvt.owned to visit the ash trail that was " supposedly "  affecting the Bibe area. At the time , on of our 4x4 members,Carlos Echeverria, was the general superintendent of one of the plants, was invited to board this journey.

They reached the park, toured the area jumped over to the Del Carmen's , same thing tour some more then went over to the vecinities and finally a quick fuel stop to Cd.Acuсa . Before coming home again.

Afterwards, the NPS authorities showed Carlos how it was affecting the pollution thru a computer program and they paid attention. Well he ask the guys if they could have a run with this program for themselves to double check it and if so, take the word to the proper Head brass in CFE to take matters in correcting this situation.

Well it didn't take long before the NPS guys returned for their reunion and using the same program the CFE guys showed how ALL the pollution from the Houston area was "landing" on BiBe and NOT from the power plants here. These guys nevr said a word about it and they just picked theyr sutff and never returned...Hmmm...how ackward, don't you think :?:  :?:
Stay thirsty, my friends.
