Another movie in the Big Bend? While pre-production continues on "There Will Be Blood" and "No Country for Old Men," both major productions and both based in Marfa, a third movie has emerged in the area.

First reports about the latest film, called simply "Big Bend Movie," were thought to be rumor. The plot was said to be about terrorists taking over the border.

The VisitBigBend Tourism council weighed in on the subject and sent out an e-mail saying this was the "last thing" the area needed, a movie about terrorism along the border. But, as plans for the other productions became clear, the website for the movie "No Country for Old Men" posted a synopsis of their plot which read, "Violence and mayhem ensue after a hunter stumbles upon some dead bodies, a stash of heroin, and more than $2 million in cash near the Rio Grande."

Because the movie is set along the Rio with "violence" it was thought that the "Big Bend Movie" and "No Country for Old Men" were being confused and were actually one in the same.

However, new information has come to light. A group of Austin-based filmmakers is scheduled to begin shooting later this month in south Brewster County, according to Robert Stewart, director of the production. The movie which, now, according to the website www.bigbendmovie.net, is called "Big Bend, the Movie" involves a terrorist plot to enter the United States through the Big Bend and detonate a suitcase containing a nuclear weapon.

The website which, depending on computer equipment and software, might open under either a .com or .net address, solicits donations. An opening banner says, "If you would like to join us in this unique effort to promote border defense and raise awareness of this critical issue in the War on Terror, ..." the site then lists several levels of membership where contributors can, for example, donate as much as $25,000 on the "Commander" level or as little as $500 on the "Trooper" level.

The first two films feature established stars. The third introduces two newcomers to the screen. "There Will Be Blood" will star Daniel Day-Lewis who won an academy award for "Gangs of New York." It is based on Upton Sinclair's novel "Oil!" and is set in California in the early 20th century. "No Country for Old Men" is based on Cormac McCarthy's latest novel and will star Tommy Lee Jones.

Stars for "Big Bend, the Movie" are listed as Maurice Ripke and Jon Boatwright.

And just to keep things interesting another "movie rumor" has emerged. According to the latest buzz, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will be starring in "a Big Bend movie."

No Country For Old Men is a great book by one of the greatest American authors...Cormac McCarthy.

His books are not light reading, but highly recommended.  Brush up on your Spanish and read "The Crossing", "All the Pretty Horses", and "Cities on the Plain".  Spectacular novels.
WATER, It does a body good.

Agreed. His style of writing initially will have you flipping back pages early on to figure out which character is speaking, but the books are great examples of good literature.
