Moving to BB

Hello!  We are hoping to move the BB in the spring.  Any suggestions or helpful information would be great.  Particularly we are concerned about employment opportunities.

Yea, I'd be concerned about employment opportunites in the Big Bend Region tooo.  Yea, big time.  I keep my open for once-in-a-life-time opportunities, they have not happened yet.  Min Wage rules in this region probably.  I think that Fort Stockton and El Paso Energy usually have some openings - they have a hard time keeping employees out in the middle of no where.  Maybe Poindexter will hire you at Ciblo Creek Ranch...

Where do you plan to move the BB to?

Sorry! Couldn't resist.   :D

I'd think decent jobs out that way are gonna be tough to find.

WOW I wish you the best and I am sooooo envious! I too want to move to the BB, and have applied already at the NPS.....I suggest if you wish to be involved that closely, go to USA Jobs and register for emails when there are openings....they are few and seasonal....many temporary too.
I am not ready to move yet, but would like to buy some land and build a little solar home in the near future.....if $ and luck allows! I have recently met someone wonderful here in SA who also loves the BB, but we have a few loose ends to tie here in civilization first! I will say it is a MAJOR lifestyle change, but if you've done your research and enjoy the beauty and eccentricities of that area, and you're really ready.......DO IT!

Sorry, you can't move the BB as I now own it.  Got it at a fire sale by the NPS.  I now own it from entrance to entrance - and it's not for sale.  But, I'll let you come and visit...

Living in BB

Hey, I bought BB and the London Bridge (in Arizona) in January of this year…just hasn’t had the time to fence it off yet.  Maybe I got took?   I know when I lived and went to school in Alpine back in the mid 1970’s work was extremely hard to come by.  You basically had to know someone or wait for someone to die to get a job.  When you did get one, the pay was pretty low.  I guess if you’re a independently wealthy gazillionaire, like the guy that bought up Lajatis, it would be pretty easy.

OMG! You said the "L" word!!!     I'm sure we all have our opinions and experiences of Lajitas......quite a bittersweet subject for me, actually.....all in all, the natural beauty of the Big Bend area is unmatched, but some of my fondest memories are the people I've shared time with down there.....Quite alot of character they possess, whether residents or visitors.....reason is all of us WANT to be there, with the exception of a few of course.....only the passionate and pure of heart really can survive there in the long run.......

The Starlight Theatre was for sale.  Would be good with the tourists, etc.  I checked into it six months ago.  Couldn't get a group of investors interested.  Chisos Muse - got some deep pockets?

There's lots of good job opportunities out there:
