Should the United States DHS, Department of Homeland Security, Immigration, Customs, and Border Patrol, establish an official port of entry @ the La Linda bridge where road 2627 dead ends at - just south of Stillwell & BGWMA.

This is a binding poll that will run for 14 days.  There is no middle ground of "don't know".

I haven't been down there, although my Dad has.  What all is left over on the Mexican side?  I know the church and some buildings are still standing, but is there any kind of community left after the plant shut down?  How far is it from there to Boquillas?  Or can you even get there from the bridge?

What all is left over on the Mexican side?
The plant, mine, some buildings, junk cars, etc.  Not a whole lot.  There was a report from some govt agency that there were concerns about a lot of the chemicals leaching into the Rio.  Lots of old equipment, etc.   Looks to have been a diner right across the bridge - pretty much falling apart.  I think there were people living there until they closed the borders after 9/11.  Last time I was there, we could hear a handful of people in the distance.

How far is it from there to Boquillas? About 23 miles following the river and about 19 miles as the muse flies - on the Mexican side, if there is a road/trail/path.  From what I understand, it's like an 8 hour drive or so from Ojinaga down to Santa Eleana (at best) - probably 45-50 miles.  Can't tell from the maps that I have if there is anything between LaLinda and Boquillas.  Guess I need a "Roads of Mexico Map".

With no other crossings between Del Rio & Presidio, it just makes sense to have another crossing. La Linda is as good as any other.

In '97 or '98, I was in Castolon, and I noticed the decorations on several graves in the cemetary there. They appeared to be new. I asked a volunteer about this, and he said that many people buried there had relatives that still lived in the area, across the border of course. He said the decorations were from the recent "diaz de la muerte" celebration. I guess that kind of ritual is out of the question now.
