While on the subject of WMA's (Wildlife Management Areas) has anyone had any experience or visited Elephant Mountain Wildlife Management Area, EMWMA, 26 miles south of Alpine on 118?  Another one of the vast many places that I have yet to partake in.  I can never die - I've got too much exploring left to do!

The only problem is, you can't go up on the mountain since that's where the sheep are.  As far as I know, the best chance to actually get up the mountain is when the Texas Bighorn Society does a work project up there, or if you get some kind of guided tour from one of the biologists somehow.  Or lastly, if you fork over $75k+ for a permit to hunt a sheep...

I remember reading in the Paisano last year that a flock of about 14 sheep had moved into BBNP in the Dog Canyon-Dagger Flats area.

I remember reading that also.  Wonder where they went?

What kind of track is this?  I took this pic in the NW sector of BBNP in early April 2005.  That sharp edge suggests to me the the size is true.

Need a ruler so we can get a better idea of how big it is.  Don't you carry a ruler in the backcountry?

Bobcat,

Looks kinda like a print we saw off the river road in the area we call "animal alley". It was a cloven hoof like that and was in the neighbor hood of 6-8" long and 4-6" wide (about the size of my hand with the fingers slightly spread). We weren't sure what it was and it didn't match anything from the tracks flyers we have from Big Bend.

That track was in the NW Badlands near a water source.  I should have place a ruler on that, like Randell said. I think the diameter on that pole stop was ~ 1.5 inches(of course, I no longer have that pole).
