I was born in Texas But you folks embarass me to no end. What's you're Trip?  ? Rednecks? You"ve not seen a real REDNECK. PA---=-- REDNECKS!

With a little work on your grammar and capitalization, I might be able to understand enough of what you are talking about to respond.

I'm glad you were born in Texas.  I am a proud 6th generation Texan on one side and the other side gets a little obscure after 5 generations in Texas when it merges with Cherokee and Ute.

ok.....so here's the deal.  Why do I think TLJ is a prick?.....

.....I've heard from several other people who have 'met' him and say the same thing.  I'll never pay a dime to one of his sorry assed movies again.

did mom ever tell you that we were related to him? he's like my third cousin or something. i didn't know he was such an @$$hole. guess it runs in the family

yeah, too bad tommy is a real prick!  i'll never see any TLJ movie, ever.  He's a loud mouth jerk.

Then go see it for Barry Pepper. He was great as Roger Maris, great as Dale Earnhardt, great as Pvt. Jackson...

Wait a minute. TLJ directed too??

Never mind.

I saw the movie in Dallas a couple of months ago.  If you don't like a little dark humor, there will be some scenes that bother you.  But I thought it was a good movie, at times hilarious and at times very poignant.  Great scenery of the area around Kent and Van Horn, and also Big Bend and Mexico.

It's true that in real life TLJ isn't a very nice guy.  But I think he's an incredible actor, and I know he has a great appreciation for West Texas, so I'll cut him some slack.

I just rented this movie over the weekend. I thought the movie itself was pretty decent, and loved seeing the scenery in the background. I almost paid more attention to that than the story.

One thing I noticed that was kinda interesting: the scene at the mouth of Santa Elena when TLJ lassoes the BP agent and drags him across the river - they showed him pulling him through the water from both sides, but stopped short of showing TLJ (on horse) walking ashore on the Mexican side. I wonder if that's because it's not a legal border crossing, and they would've been documenting their own illegal crossing?

yeah, one of my BigBend buds called me this past weekend about the movie and started freaking out over it, telling me that I need to see it....for the scenery of the bend....he claims most of it was done in a diner or something by fort stockton. He swears we've been there before but I don't remember what he's talking about.  Maybe I'll break down and see it for Barry Pepper's sake.

I don't know jack about TLJ, but spent a few hours last weekend watching this movie and have to admit I really enjoyed it.  I rented it to see the scenery, but found it to be an original story well told.  IMHO there aren't many on the shelves of BlockBuster to match this one.  My retention rate is approximately 30 minutes after which I can usually only say if I liked something or not, and that's subject to error, but there are several scenes in this one that will stay with me for a while.

We rented the movie this evening on DVD.  Quite good.  Many, many scenes, from what I could tell, were filmed in Big Bend and BBRSP.  The scene near Santa Elena Canyon is there as is a segment that looks, as best I can tell, was filmed in Closed Canyon in BBRSP.

The February 2006 issue of Texas Monthly had an interesting article on TLJ. He was kicked out of the Hollard Hotel in Alpine a few years back for being rowdy and obnoxious when he was staying in the penthouse suite. At least that is the history posted in the lobby of the hotel.
The opinion expressed above is my own and not that of the National Park Service or the Federal Government.

Yeah, that's what we hear of him when he's out around town too. I believe Papa Locke has had some personal run-in's with him as well....

I saw him a few times at the Liberty Bar in San Antonio, but he was quiet and minding his own business when I saw him.

Saw 3 Burials this weekend.

Not impressed with the movie and I would've enjoyed the scenery more if the actors would have moved out of the way.    :)

Stay away from star's ranch, but not from San Saba.  Tommy Lee Jones' ranch home is the only thing that isn't welcoming
