it never rains again in the West Texas Trans Pecos Big Bend Region...  Never get to go backpacking into the High Cheetos  :icon_wink: never get to feel the cool air at the Window...  This has to be devastating on the wildlife...   No rain even on the horizon...

Yep, the Dust Bowl ended, eventually.

From the U.S. Drought Monitor, which basically shows the entire Southwestern US as critically dry

The drought is quenched here... Okla City received 4 inches of rain over the past 24 hours, and thankfully not as huge chunks of ice (hail).  Maybe this break in the drought here means it will start breaking in other areas affected.

The rain is appreciated, but a bit late for wheat farmers.  About 80% of the crop is gone from what I've heard on the local farm and ranch report.

1932-1939 are the generally accepted dates...  Ok, so in ~2019 the Basin and the Window will reopen.  Fortunately, the crossing into Mexico will open long before that and give us new opportunities...

It will rain.  Just don't hold your breath!  "Our" rain is falling to the east and flooding the Mississippi. The weather will shift back . . . it is just a matter of when.
