Title: 10/3-5/17 Far Flung Crew
Post by: stingrey on October 12, 2017, 05:32:33 PM
Hey all!

I used a Sony dsc-rx100 v and a GoPro for everything you see here:

Also, this culmination was both me showing a non-native the wilds of Texas while Far Flung showed us through Santa Elena on a two night birthday float for the majority of the party you will see in this video.

Enjoy!

Outstanding, thanks for sharing.

Would those river conditions be considered relatively calm, average, or on the rough side?

The river is a little up recently. It's running about 1250 cfs; anything above 1000 is considered high. Probably about twice the normal flow for this period, which would make it not quite 20 times the recorded low and not quite ten times (oops, I mean "a tenth') of the recorded max for this time of year.  Of course, flows vary enormously from season to season, and even then they're dependent upon rainfall and upstream releases. There are plusses and minuses to navigating each flow level.

Rey, another great video and a like from me! Is that the Rock Slide Rapids around the 11:30 mark?

Rey, good job!  I recognized the opening scene of the Cherokee from one of your earlier posts.

Is that Fern canyon at about the 13:30 mark?  That's a good bit of water coming down it.

The water conditions were excellent! The river was considered high during the time I got to participate in this float. The timing was such that a week before a float was evacuated to higher grounds, and we did have a quick thrill from some rising waters as well from a same day storm upstream. Either way the water was high so mostly smooth because it got us up and over some existing challenges, if that makes sense.

Yes! And the whole group navigated Fern to the upper pools! And correct, the opening scene is the same from another outing, I need to retake that same(ish) clip seasonally to pair with alternate season/weather conditions :)
