If you're rained-in like I am today, and you're not into college football, here's some reading material. It's a little long, but I hope you enjoy it. It wasn't written for an audience of Big Bend afficiandos, so bear with me when I state something that may be obvious to you all.

Now admit it Roy, the avatar is a classic :!:   Dear to my heart for sure as it was the design I painted on my helmet in my whitewater kayaking days. The local paddlers always looked forward to my arrival from Texas.

They must have all been Eagles fans.

Or maybe it was the fact that my Blazer was always fully loaded with Texas Dom Perignon, cases and cases of Lone Star :?

nice trip report.  every time you took a "break" on the Marufo Vega trail I winced & thought -- "OK, get the SAR team out to retrieve that corpse!"  Glad you made it!

I'm thinking maybe packing an umbrella wouldn't be a waste of weight on some of those desert hikes.   :)   Nice report.

Mark,

I enjoyed your trip report.  Don't hesitate to come to Big Bend in the winter, that's my favorite time.  There is plenty of daylight.  You can hike from 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. even in early winter.  I was in Big Bend last year in early March and it wasn't bad either.  Next time you come, plan for a day or two in the Guadalupe Mountains, it's not that far out of the way.  First day hike up Guadalupe Peak, second day hike McKittrick Canyon.

Great Report,... I liked the way you laid it out and it shows how much territory you covered.... you were busy.

Thanks............

Picacho - I have been to Guadalupe. I wrote a little story about my climb to the Peak in the GUMO forum. It's called 1976 Trip. But I haven't been to McKittrick. I have a plan, which is still in the daydream phase, to get out to BB this March. It all depends on how much money I'll have left after getting some work done on my house...

Gotta go. There's a football game on I want to watch...Dallas vs. Seahawks.

Me and some friends (both of them) are gonna try and shoot our own Hogzilla this Sunday near Lindsay. If we get lucky, I'll put up a few pics.
